Worker beaten at homeless shelter
Suspect arrested a week later
MADISON, Wis. — An employee at a Madison homeless shelter was beaten by a man who the employee suspected was drunk, according to a release from Madison police.
The 49-year-old employee of Grace Homeless Shelter at 116 West Washington Ave. told police Dwayne Golden, 51, of Madison, arrived at the shelter shortly after 7:15 p.m. on Dec. 12 and wanted to come in. The employee said Golden smelled of intoxicants and was angered when he was asked to submit to a breath test, based on the shelter’s policy.
The employee said Golden accused him of being prejudice, struck him in the head and yelled vulgarities at him.
Police said Golden was found on Friday in the 800 block of Badger Road. When he was taken into custody, he said it must be a case of mistaken identity.
Golden was arrested on suspicion of battery, disorderly conduct and on a probation violation.
