Woodchucks stop Mallards, 7-2
Three-run first sets the tone for Wisconsin
MADISON — The Wisconsin Woodchucks defeated the Madison Mallards 7-2 in a Northwoods League game at Warner Park Tuesday night.
The Woodchucks scored three runs in the first inning to jump out front.
The ‘Chucks capitalized on a Mallards error as Paul deJong had an RBI single, Nate Mondou scored another on a ground out and another Mallards error on a double steal led to the third run.
The Mallards got back in the game with runs in the first and second inning. Austin Barr hit a sacrifice fly in the first and Brian Rodemoyer scored on a Wisconsin error on a double steal attempt..
But the Woodchucks got a run in the sixth on a bases loaded walk to Jack Klages and in the seventh, Mondou added a two-run double.
DeJong drove in another run with a single in the ninth – his fourth hit of the night.
The Mallards are now 15-11 in the first half of the Northwoods League South Division. The Woodchucks are 17-10.
