Women deliver 300 gift packages to local ER nurses

MADISON, Wis. — Two women are doing something good for Madison-area ER nurses while working through the grieving process themselves.

Cindy Jaggi and Laura Konopacki made 300 self-care boxes inspired by their cousin Christine Konopacki Gratzke, who was an ER nurse for more than 38 years in the Chicago area and passed away the day after Thanksgiving due to COVID-19.

Jaggi said Christine was their hero, so they reached out to help other heroes feel special this holiday season.

“We’re bringing them just a little gift package to show the love that we have for all they’ve been doing during the pandemic,” Jaggi said. “Giving their compassionate care, their services in the frontlines, their time away from family and friends, quarantining and then being there with loved ones who have gone through COVID when their loved ones couldn’t be there, and holding their hands.”

The gift packages were delivered to SSM Health St. Mary’s and UnityPoint Health – Meriter on Tuesday. Each package included a special Christine’s Heroes coffee blend, hand cream, candles, spa items and chocolates.
