Woman who killed 3-month old baby, sentenced for 26 years
BOSCOBEL, Wis. — A Boscobel woman who caused the death of a 3-month-old has been sentenced to 9 months in county jail and 26 years in Wisconsin prison.
Renae L. Bellis was charged with a count of obstructing an officer and a count of first-degree reckless homicide.
Bellis had initially told police in 2016 that the baby’s father hit and shook the child. Bellis later admitted she had lied. According to a criminal complaint filed in Grant County, Bellis said she was depressed and took it out on the baby. She told police she slapped the baby multiple times on her face and butt. She also shook the baby at arm’s length. She later found that the baby was dead.
Bellis is sentenced to serve 9 months in county jail, followed by 16 years incarceration in Wisconsin prison and 10 years of extended supervision.
