Police: Woman run over by truck after jumping out due to mechanical failures
PORTAGE, Wis. — A 36-year-woman was run over by a truck after attempting to jump out and stop the vehicle from rolling out of control through private parking lots and toward a steep embankment early Saturday morning.
Columbia County Dispatch Center said they received a report of an accident with injuries in the 200 block of W Wisconsin St but discovered it at the 200 block of West Edgewater Street on the walking path next to the Portage Canal.
Portage police interviewed the victim, who reported being run over by the truck located on the scene. Police determined the accident was likely caused by mechanical failures.
The victim said she attempted to stop the vehicle but safety mechanisms failed. As a result, the victim, then jumped from the vehicle unsuccessfully and was run over.
The victim was stabilized and transported to a regional hospital with an unknown level of serious injuries.
Police said victim’s current status is not known.
