The woman accused of slamming a toddler in her care to the floor, causing a serious head injury, has pleaded guilty in Dane County Court Friday.

Erica Dorsch, 31, of Madison, pleaded guilty to the charge of felony child abuse including intentionally causing harm to her 3-year-old foster son.

Police said officers responded on the morning of Jan. 27 to the 700 block of Engelhart Drive on a report that a boy had suffered a serious head injury. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

According to the criminal complaint, Dorsch told police she became angry in the bathroom when she believed the boy lied about washing his face. She said she threw a book at him, hitting his head, then yanked him off the toilet, pushing him to the floor as hard as she could multiple times .

She told police the boy yelled when his head hit the floor, his back arched, his eyes fluttered and he became unresponsive. She said he vomited and had stopped breathing.

A sentencing hearing was not yet scheduled Friday, according to court records.
