Woman hit by stray bullet at Cardinals game

A woman attending a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game at Busch Stadium was struck by a stray bullet inside the ballpark Tuesday, police told the Associated Press and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The 34-year-old victim was injured during a game against the Milwaukee Brewers, police said.

She said she felt pain in her arm and went to a first-aid station. The Cardinals issued a statement Wednesday saying the woman had an abrasion and a bruise on her arm.

A bullet was later found near her seat. Police said there had been a call about shots fired near the 14th Street and Chouteau Avenue area moments before the woman was struck, and the bullet may have come from someone shooting into the air. That intersection is less than a mile from Busch Stadium, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The victim’s mother told the Post-Dispatch the victim had retained an attorney and they had been advised not to speak to reporters.
