Woman fighting terminal cancer gets help cooling her home from stranger on Facebook

MADISON, Wis. — Eula Newcome is most like any other loving parent.

“I just want to make sure my family is on, that my kids are ok,” shared Newcome.

However, most parents aren’t facing her future, a battle with stage four colon cancer which was diagnosed in October, 2020. To make matters worse, doctors told her it wasn’t a matter of if but when that fight would be lost.

Instead of getting angry or frustrated by the diagnosis, Newcome is choosing to fight this disease for her family.

“They are the reason that I get up every day and I thank God that I wake up every day,” explained Newcome.

But recently, the battle has become overwhelming when in June the Newcome family moved to an apartment without air conditioning. Without the money to afford a new one, Newcome tried her best to live with a hot home.

However, the heat just became too unbearable. Desperate and looking for an answer Newcome turned to Facebook for help. Posting about her story, Newcome hoped someone might be willing to help. In just a matter of minutes, that wish was answered as a total stranger, Rhonda Stokes, messaged Newcome back telling her that a brand-new AC unit was waiting for her at Home Depot.

Today, Newcome’s new AC is helping her feel much more comfortable and she feels lucky to be a part of such a supportive community.

“You guys are awesome. You guys came together when someone was in dire need and just made my life that much easier to fight for and I’ll continue to fight,” said Newcome.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for other costs related to her cancer. If you want to donate, you can find it here.
