Woman fails to stop at stop sign, gets arrested for felony OWI

VERONA, Wis. — Verona police arrested a woman Sunday morning on suspicion of fifth-offense OWI, according to a news release.

Monica A. Martell-Egan, 56, was arrested after a Verona police officer saw her fail to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Cross Country Road and Hemlock Drive. The officer put Martell-Egan through a field sobriety test and subsequently arrested her.

Because of previous OWI convictions, Martell-Egan is not allowed to drive with an alcohol concentration above 0.02. A breath sample revealed Martell-Egan’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.16.

In addition to the felony fifth-offense OWI charge, Martell-Egan was booked on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration.
