New Tastes from a Wisconsin Favorite
Wollersheim Winery & Distillery has some fresh new offerings perfect for summer (and year-round, really).
Scarlet Fumé debuted in April and co-owner Julie Coquard says it’s become an instant success. The red version of the classic Prairie Fumé took nearly three years to perfect, from finding the right grapes to perfecting a new fermentation process. Scarlet Fumé is a well-balanced, easy-to-drink red wine: sweet but not too sweet, not overly dry or tannic. A great summer wine, it pairs well with hors d’oeuvre and grilled favorites.
The winery’s canned offerings are also growing in popularity, a great choice for outdoor activities. The lightweight cans are easy to pack and easy to recycle and contain the premium quality you’d expect from Wollersheim. The wines are specially engineered to be enjoyed in a can. Varieties include Wollersheim White and a blush called Prairie Pink.
Visitors have been returning to the scenic estate to relax and unwind throughout the summer. “After a quiet winter, it’s been really nice,” Coquard says. “A lot of people have been stopping by to enjoy a cocktail at the distillery or a glass of wine in the garden and finally try our new Bistro.”
The deli-style Bistro features a rotating menu crafted by Coquard’s son, Romain Coquard, a professional chef who trained in Europe. He’s also experimenting with creative desserts, such as Brandy Old-Fashioned cookies and port wine cheesecake poppers. These desserts, along with sandwiches, salads and more, are made on-site and available to enjoy as you wander the picturesque grounds.
