With fame come more speaking fees for Milwaukee sheriff
MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke earned more than $105,000 in speaking fees last year as he became nationally known as one of the most vocal supporters of President Donald Trump. The figure nearly quadrupled the amount he earned in 2015 for speaking engagements.
Documents reviewed by The Associated Press show Clarke was in high demand in 2016 and was invited to speak at more than three dozen events across the country.
In 2015, Clarke earned $27,400 for speaking engagements.
Clarke disclosed the information as part of his annual “Statement of Economic Interest” submitted to Milwaukee County’s Ethics Board.
Clarke has become a popular figure among conservatives for his unapologetic style of speaking on issues ranging from gun rights and his opposition to the Black Lives Matters movement.
