Wisconsin’s Foodie History
If we are what we eat, then Wisconsinites are pretty darn lucky. Our state is rich with foods—from cranberries and maple sugar to venison and cheese—and unique culinary traditions. Terese Allen and Bobbie Malone celebrate this heritage with The Flavor of Wisconsin for Kids (Wisconsin Historical Society Press). This new history-cookbook hybrid explores where our food comes from, with chapters devoted to forests, waters, orchards, dairy farms, gardens and communities. Accented with current and vintage photographs, it’s a fun and informative jaunt through Wisconsin’s food history. The authors created the book for kids and adults to use together, and they’ve packed it with tantalizing recipes appropriate for a range of ages and skill sets. Could there be a more delicious way to learn about Wisconsin’s past?
