Wisconsin wrestling ranked No. 3 in preseason rankings

The Wrestling Insider News Magazine released its NCAA Division 1 rankings on Wednesday.

Wisconsin is ranked No. 3 in the rankings behind Iowa and Penn State. Nebraska is fourth in the poll and Lehigh is ranked fifth.

Five Wisconsin Badgers are ranked individually in the WIN preseason rankings.

Seth Gross, a 2018 NCAA Champion and transfer from South Dakota State, is ranked No. 2 at 133 pounds according to the poll. In May, Gross announced he was transferring to UW-Madison after taking the 2018-19 season off due to injury.

Senior Tristan Moran is ranked at No. 7 at 141 pounds. Before coming to Wisconsin during the 2018-19 season, Moran attended Oklahoma State University. Moran qualified for NCAA Nationals last year.

Lancaster native Cole Martin comes in at No. 12 at 149 pounds. Martin is was a three-time state champion in high school. He qualified for the NCAA tournament last year.

At 165 pounds, 2x All-American Evan Wick is ranked No. 2. Wick finished his freshman season third and his sophomore season fourth on the podium.

Transfer from Northwestern Johnny Sebastian is ranked No. 19 at 184 pounds.

All-American Trent Hillger is ranked No. 5 at Heavyweight. He finished his redshirt freshman season eighth in the nation.

The Badgers open up their 2019-20 season Nov. 1 at the Battle on the Midway in San Diego.

Their first home dual will be Dec. 19 against Kent State.

Wisconsin will face Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State, Michigan and Northern Iowa this year at home.
