Wisconsin women’s hockey ranked No. 1 in preseason poll

The Western Collegiate Hockey Association ranked the Wisconsin Badgers women’s hockey team as No. 1 in their preseason poll released Wednesday.

The Badgers are the defending NCAA champions after defeating Minnesota in March.

Wisconsin’s senior forward, Abby Roque, was selected as the WCHA preseason player of the year.

Badger Annie Pankowski was also named one of the top 30 honorees for the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Wisconsin’s season opener will take place Sept. 27 when the team faces Lindenwood.

The Badgers home opener will be Oct. 4 when Penn State comes to Madison.
