Wisconsin volleyball ranked 3rd in AVCA preseason poll

MADISON, Wis. — The defending national champion Wisconsin Badgers volleyball team will begin a new year ranked #3 in the country — with the team they beat in the NCAA finals last year taking the top spot.

The American Volleyball Coaches Association’s preseason poll has Nebraska taking the top spot, with Texas being ranked #2 ahead of Wisconsin.

Louisville and Minnesota round out the Top 5, with fellow Big Ten rival Ohio State being ranked 7th.

The Badgers will try to go back-to-back as national champions this season, although the words “defending” and “reigning” aren’t part of the 2022 team’s vocabulary this year, with the Badgers saying they have the mentality that this is a new year, and therefore a new team.

A ceremony celebrating last year’s championship will be held on at the UW Fieldhouse on Friday, September 2 ahead of Wisconsin’s match against Marquette at 8 p.m.
