Wisconsin Union debuts winter activities event series

Porter Butts Gallery at Wisconsin Union to be renamed after community feedback

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Union team is hosting a new event series called Winter Wonderland from Jan. 5 to Feb. 14.

According to a release, all members of the community and University of Wisconsin–Madison staff, faculty and students are invited to enjoy the events.

“We created Winter Wonderland to help people feel connected and to help them enjoy outdoor recreation opportunities safely,” said Heidi Lang, Wisconsin Union assistant director for program and leadership development. “We also want to be of service to our amazing community.”

Winter Wonderland will include one-hour night hikes, a scavenger hunt, take-to-make snowman project kits and more.

The night hikes will be on Jan. 5, 12 and 19, with a special day-time Hound Hike on Jan. 9. The hikes will be physically distant. Registration in advance is required.

Madison’s Central Business Improvement District will provide a giveaway and host an Instagram wall at Lisa Link Peace Park. OhYa Studio created a backdrop with cutouts for a photo opportunity. Those who take photos with the cutouts will receive a prize and entered to win a $100 gift card.

Wisconsin Union will host a scavenger hunt Jan. 16 through Feb. 14 around Memorial and East Campus Mall. Those who answer all 15 questions will have a chance to win Wisconsin Union gift cards.

The Take-To-Make Snowman Project Kits can be picked up for free on Jan. 23 between 1-3 p.m. Register for the kits here.

Masks will be required at all events. Guests must practice physical distancing.

Wisconsin Union hopes to hold the annual Winter Carnival later in 2021, but will continue to monitor health and safety guidelines.
