Wisconsin reports nearly 1,000 new COVID cases, highest daily total since April
MADISON, Wis. — New coronavirus cases in Wisconsin are surging to levels they haven’t been since the vaccine first became available to most Wisconsinites.
The state’s Department of Health Services reported a spike of 983 new confirmed cases on Tuesday, up from 278 new cases the day before. It’s the highest single-day total for new cases since April 8, when 1,049 new cases were reported.
That total was recorded just a few days after everyone in Wisconsin aged 16 and up was ruled eligible for the vaccine on April 5th.
The new total pushes the 7-day average for new cases to 419 per day. As recently as July 9, the 7-day average had fallen below 100 per day statewide.
