Wisconsin men get a 3-2 road win over Ohio State

Badger women’s hockey picked to win WCHA

The Wisconsin men’s hockey team got their third win of the 2014-2015 season Saturday in Columbus, as the Badgers got a 3-2 win over the Buckeyes.

The game didn’t start well for UW, as Ohio State’s Anthony Greco lit the lamp in the first two minutes of the game to give the home team a 1-0 lead. Later in the first period, Grant Besse scored for UW to make it 1-1.

In the second period, the Buckeyes struck first again, as Christian Lampasso’s goal gave the Buckeyes their second lead of the game. Just as they did in the first frame, the Badgers responded. Joseph Labate slipped one past OSU goalie Christian Frey to make it 2-2 heading into the third.

In the third, the Badgers defense kept the Buckeyes at bay and Adam Rockwood was able to score with 4:19 left in the game to give UW a 3-2 win.

The UW women weren’t so lucky. Their eight-game unbeaten streak came to an end at the hands of Ohio State Saturday in Columbus. The loss also ended a nine-game unbeaten steak against the Buckeyes.

The third period proved to be the difference in Columbus, as the Buckeyes scored twice in the first 11 minutes of the frame to take a 4-2 lead. Freshman Annie Pankowski pulled the Badgers within 4-3 when she scored with 1:28 remaining. That was all UW could muster, as OSU came away with a 4-3 win.
