Wisconsin faces construction worker shortage as home building projects increase
MADISON, Wis. — Finding skilled laborers is becoming a growing concern for some construction companies in Wisconsin.
Brad Boycks, executive director of the Wisconsin Builders Association, said it’s a problem his organization is trying to address.
The group is teaming up with local schools to start the conversation early with potential construction workers.
“We’re working with middle schoolers and high schoolers and talking about trade being a good option and really trying to develop those relationships with students early,” Boycks said.
The need for more laborers is on the rise as home construction projects continue to increase. Building permits in the state have increased by 10 percent this year compared to last year, according to the WBA.
Boycks advises construction companies to contact local community colleges to recruit employees.
