Wis. volunteers head to Ill. for Red Cross efforts

Red Cross assessing needs in Brandon, WI after severe weather

Officials from the American Red Cross Western Wisconsin Region announced Tuesday they are sending volunteers to Illinois to support disaster relief efforts after recent severe weather.

Brenda Haney, of DeForest, and Diana O’Neill, of Portage, will drive the emergency response vehicle out of Madison to Peoria, according to the release. Trudy Carden, of Barneveld, and Mike Siwek, of Evansville, will be driving the ERV out of Janesville to Peoria.

“You’re talking about folks who don’t have Thanksgiving. They don’t have Christmas. That’s all been kind of thrown out the window for things they need to replace to get their lives back on track. We’re going down there to help them see if we can do that,” O’Neill said.

All four of them are trained disaster volunteers will support the feeding efforts of the Red Cross within the impacted communities, officials said. Volunteers left from Madison at 10:30 a.m. and from Janesville around 11:30 a.m.
