Winnipeg Jets stun Predators 5-1 to advance

The Winnipeg Jets overwhelmed the Nashville Predators 5-1 to advance to the Western Conference finals on Thursday night.

Tyler Myers and Paul Stastny scored 2:06 apart in the first period for the Jets, who never looked back in the Game 7 road win at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

P.K. Subban made it 2-1 later in the first, but that was the Predators’ lone score of the game.

Stastny added a second goal in the third period, sandwiched between goals in the second and third by Mark Scheifele.

The Jets chased Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne, a Vezina Trophy finalist, from the game after just 10 minutes and seven seconds.

While Nashville fell short of its goal to return to the Stanley Cup Final, where they lost last year to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Jets will next take on the expansion Vegas Golden Knights for their own spot in the final.

That Western Conference finals series will begin with Game 1 on Saturday night in Winnipeg.

On the Eastern Conference side of the playoffs, the Tampa Bay Lightning will host the Washington Capitals in Game 1 on Friday night.
