Wineke: Robin joins the insurrection

MADISON, Wis. — This is what I read from Assembly Speaker Robin Vos on the front page of this morning’s paper: “It was an honor to be invited to travel by private plane with President Trump and top staff to attend his rally in Alabama.”

Are you kidding me?

No, you are not kidding me.  The state’s top Republican, who was attacked two months ago by the former president for “working hard to cover up election corruption,” is now in Trump’s good graces.

So much so that Trump invited Vos to travel with him on a private plane to a rally where thousands cheered him, booing only when Trump endorsed the Covid vaccines.

Why would Trump change his mind about a turncoat like Vos?

Well, Vos and state Republicans are financing what he now calls a “forensic audit” of the 2020 election.

Former state Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman is leading the audit and is leaving no stone unturned.  He even attended a symposium with the My Pillow guy and has spoken at pro-Trump rallies. So we can be assured that anything he and his team of crack investigators find will be based only on objective facts.

“We have doubled down on our top-to-bottom investigation by Justice Michael Gableman. We will do whatever it takes to help Justice Gableman uncover reports of systematic fraud in our forensic audit,” Vos said.

This would all be funny if it wasn’t evidence that the insurrection that resulted in the nation’s capital being pillaged last January continues throughout the country.

There is no evidence of systematic fraud in the Wisconsin elections or anyplace else for that matter.  The accuracy of the elections has been endorsed by Trump’s attorney general, by Republican secretaries of state throughout the nation and by numerous court rulings.

The stated objective of Trump, Mike Lindell (the My Pillow guy) and of the numerous right-wing websites that seem to be the only source of these reported fraud complaints, is to see Trump reinstated as president.

There is no legal way to do that.  The only way to do it would be to overthrow the Constitution of the United States, which is not going to happen.

But, hope must spring eternal when one is invited for a ride on a “private plane” with a politician who has only been impeached twice.
