Willy Street Co-Op community initiative allows anyone to paint new art mural
Willy Street Co-Op North painted an art mural for its store Monday, and the entire community was invited to join in.
Earlier in summer, Willy Street Co-Op had its employees and the community vote on an art mural to be put along the side of the co-op. Out of three options, the winning theme was “Good Things Grow Here.” The theme is meant to acknowledge the diversity of Madison and the people that help the co-op grow.
Anyone interested was invited to help paint the mural. The designers, Dane Arts Mural Arts, set up the mural to be like a color by number, according to DAMA Executive Director Emida Roller.
“[If] you can hold a paint brush, and you can apply the paint, you’re qualified,” Roller said. “It’s a great way to involve the community, and you don’t have to have experience in painting. Just want to be a part of something bigger and add that to the mural.”
People are able to paint the mural until 7 p.m. Monday. After that, DAMA will take the mural back to their studio for finishing touches. The final mural will be shown Oct. 13.
