William ‘Hollywood’ Hannawell

William (Bill/Hollywood) Hannawell, 86, of Richland Center died on November 30, 2014 at the Veteran’s Home in King, Wisconsin.

Bill was born October 22, 1928 in Lincoln City, Oregon to Everett and Edna (Miller) Hannawell. Bill lived with his grandmother, Mary Hannawell in Fox Hollow, and graduated from Richland Center High School in 1946. After High School, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army and went to boot camp in Fort Knox, KY from 1946 through March 1948. He re-enlisted November 1949 and served until November 1952. In November 1950, Bill was hit in both legs with shrapnel near what was called “The Frozen Chosen”. Bill was hospitalized until August 1951 after which he was reassigned to an Oakland California base where he was a catcher for the Army baseball team. Bill was a proud Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Bill received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was an active member of the Richland Center American Legion Post 13. Bowling “Hollywood” Style! Bill enjoyed all of the teams he was on, the people he met, and the great friends he made.

Bill married Caroline Cockroft Anders and she preceded him in death in 1995. Bill later met and married Ella Bird in 2005 and she preceded him in death in 2008.

Bill is survived by his step-children: Dee Sutton of Sheboygan, Gloria and Vern Geishert of Richland Center, WI Dennis and Heidi Bird of Garden Prairie, IL, Larry and Dixie Bird of Middleton, WI and Randy and Wanda Bird of Madison, WI; 18 step-grandchildren; 27 step-great-grandchildren; 16 step-great- great-grandchildren.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, spouse, step-son Richard Anders, brothers Everett and Ross Hannawell.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Pratt Memorial Chapel with Pastor Craig Peach officiating. Burial will follow in the Willow Valley Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites to be provided by the Local Military Memorial Honor Unit. Friends may call at the Pratt Memorial Chapel on Friday, December 5, 2014 from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers memorials in Bill’s name may be made to the American Legion Flag Park in Richland Center 900 Flag Park Drive, Richland Center, WI 53581.
