William Eugene Shelton Jr.
William “Bill” E. Shelton Jr., age 78, passed away peacefully at home from cancer on December 31, 2014. He was born August 6, 1936, in Joliet, Illinois, and grew up in Downers Grove, Illinois. He met Carolyn when they both worked at American Oil Company in Chicago. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November. Bill went to Ripon College and then to Northwestern University for his masters degree. He served three years in the army which included being recalled for the Berlin Crisis. Over the years Bill worked for American Oil Company, EDS, RH Donnelley, and the State of Wisconsin’s Department of Revenue and Department of Health and Social Services. Bill loved to sail and the family moved from the western suburbs of Chicago to Madison in 1976 so he could race his sailboat with the Mendota Yacht Club. Bill loved to travel and especially loved trips in his Corvette. He was a member of the Mad City Corvette Club. Bill enjoying fixing things and added personal touches to every house he owned.
Bill is survived by his wife Carolyn; daughters, Gail (Rich) Krisher and Dawn Keast; and the soda pups (RC, Mountain Dew, Sierra Mist and Dr. Pepper). He is preceded in death by his parents William and Edna Shelton, and dogs, Waggles, Tinker, and Soda pups Squirt and Pepsi. There will be a service at a later date.
