William Anderson, age 94 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin passed away peacefully Monday, May 8, 2017 at Wisconsin Dells Health Services.
Graveside Military Rites, provided by the Carl E. Grabman American Legion Post 329 of Briggsville, Wisconsin will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Newport Lutheran Church Cemetery in Wisconsin Dells.
William was born August 29, 1922 in Newport Township, Wisconsin the son of Fred and Mayme (Nelson) Anderson. He grew up in Wisconsin Dells and farmed in Newport with his father plus worked at Badger Ordnance. He joined the Army in January 1943 and was attached to the Air Force 472nd Glider Battalion serving our country in New Guinea, Luzon, Guadalcanal, and the Pacific Philippine Liberation through 1945, being involved in intense battles. William was honorably discharged in January 1946. In January of 1947 he married Virginia Poppie in Chicago, Illinois. She preceded him in death in 1994.
Together William and Virginia had two children; Terry Anderson and Bonita (Petersen). In 1959 he and his family moved to Stoughton, Wisconsin where he farmed for eight years. He worked for Rhine Schultz Dahl Road Construction and Fisher Body in Janesville. In 1968 they moved to Briggsville where he owned and operated Fishing Bridge Resort for 24 years, and the Hi-Way Queen Drive In for 18 years. William retired in 2003 but continued to help his brother-in-law farm.
William is survived by his daughter, Bonita (Clarke) Petersen of Briggsville; daughter-in-law, Elaine Youngerman of Reedsburg; 2 granddaughters, 7 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Fredrick at birth; wife, Virginia; son, Terry Anderson; sisters, Avis and Frances Barrier; brothers-in-law, Frank and Jack Barrier; grandson, Chris; granddaughter, Wendi; great grandson, Alexander; and son-in-law, Clarke Petersen.
