Wilbur E Voss

Wilbur Ernest Voss, 87, died October 14, 2012 at home surrounded by family. Wilbur was born in Marion Township on January 7, 1925 to Albert and Elsie (Schultz) Voss. He was adopted into the family of Christ through Holy Baptism on March 9, 1925. He grew up on the family farm in Marion Township with sisters Doris Voss and Eileen (Voss) Pfaff. He publicly confessed his faith in the Christian Rite of Confirmation on March 17, 1940. The family moved to Lemonweir Township in 1941 where he was a dairy, swine, and crop farmer till 1994 when he retired and moved to the Township of Summit. On April 2, 1948, Wilbur married Betty Marie Pfaff at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mauston where he served on the council and taught Sunday School. Wilbur’s passion in life was helping his son, Alan, drive tractor and combine. His other passions in life were boxing when he attended Mauston High School. One of the stories of his boxing days was fighting and beating Deke Slayton from Sparta. Slayton was one of the original seven astronauts. Wilbur enjoyed tractor pulling in his younger years, bowling with his farmer neighbors, playing cards, and later in life gardening and the last 15 years vacationing up North with the entire family. He served on the Lindina Fire Department, Mauston Co-op Creamery, ASCS(Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service), and Bank of Mauston boards. He enjoyed telling stories of his past and many blessings.

Survived by his children who were his pride and joy: Darlene (Ron) Daugs, Sharon (Rodney) Knuth, Kristie (Gary) Hansen, Alan (Lisa) Voss; Grandchildren: Lori (Michael) Jozwiak, Brian(Shelley) Daugs, Angie (Nick) Lindloff, Amy (Kelly) VanderMark, David (Sara) Knuth, Kelly (Tony) Green, Wayne (Sarah) Hansen, Brad (Cassie) Hansen, Paul (Kami) Hansen, Alana, Alissa, Zachary, Kyle, and Abigail Voss; Great Grandchildren: Matthew and Molly Jozwiak, Blake Lindloff, Faith Daugs, Benjamin and Joshua Knuth, Payton Rae Green, Carter and Chase Hansen, Maddi, Genevieve, and Crimson Hansen, Hunter and Riley Hansen. Also sister, Eileen Pfaff and nephew Ron (Cindy) Pfaff and niece Jackie Pfaff. He had many more relatives and friends he cared deeply about. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Elsie Voss, sister Doris and brother-in-law Francis Pfaff.

A memorial service will be held on October 22nd at 11:00a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mauston. Burial will be at the Mauston Cemetery following the service. Relatives and friends are invited to call at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Sunday from 4:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. and 10:00a.m. until the time of service on Monday. Wilbur’s life was lived by his confirmation Bible passage: Psalm 18:2 “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge”.
