SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — An off-duty Madison police officer and her wife were the two pedestrians struck during a fatal crash Monday afternoon in Sun Prairie.
According to the Sun Prairie Police Department, the off-duty officer and her wife were walking on the bike path off the roadway of East Main Street when they were struck by a vehicle involved in the crash.
The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman killed in the crash as 48-year-old Julie Nelson. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A forensic examination revealed Nelson died from injuries she suffered in the crash, according to a news release.
Police said they arrested the driver of the one of the vehicles in the crash, 32-year-old James Blackstone, for misdemeanor bail jumping.
