Whitewater advances in Div. 3 football playoffs
Warhawks stop Bethel, 26-12
The Whitewater Warhawks defeated Bethel (Minn.), 26-12 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III football playoffs at Perkins Stadium in Whitewater Saturday.
Whitewater’s defense forced four turnovers and made big plays on special teams to advance to the national semifinals next week.
The Warhawks (13-0 overall) will face No. 2 Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) next Saturday, Dec. 8, at a time and location to be determined in their 11th appearance in the national semifinals.
For the third consecutive game, junior running back Ronny Ponick and sophomore running back Alex Peete each rushed for 100 or more yards.
Ponick carried 21 times for 117 yards and two touchdowns, while Peete posted 24 carries for 123 yards and one score.
Junior linebacker Jacob Erbs led the defense with nine tackles, including two for a loss. Sophomore defensive lineman Mackenzie Balanganayi also recorded two tackles for a loss.
