Westbound Beltline ramp to close for 3 weeks due to Flex Lane construction

MADISON, Wis. — The westbound Beltline ramp to Todd Drive will close for the majority of next month, according to the state Department of Transportation.

A news release Wednesday said the westbound ramp on Highway 12/18 to Todd Drive will close for construction beginning 6:30 p.m. Monday until April 26.

The Flex Lane project aims to improve the median shoulders of the Beltline for drivers to use as an extra lane during peak traffic periods.

The following ramps remain closed until April 19:

• Todd Drive ramp to the eastbound Beltline, including the eastbound auxiliary lane between Todd Drive and Fish Hatchery Road.
• Eastbound Beltline ramp to southbound Fish Hatchery Road. Access will remain open for northbound Fish Hatchery Road.

The DOT said drivers will need to use alternate routes during the closures. Work operations are also weather dependent and subject to change.

The project is scheduled for completion in December, and the Flex Lane is expected to open at the end of the year or early 2022. The additional lanes will be available for use from east of the Whitney Way exit to the Interstate-39/90 interchange.
