West Madison gas station robbed at gunpoint, police say

A west Madison gas station was robbed Saturday night at gunpoint, police said.

The Madison Police Department said police responded at 8 p.m. to a report of a robbery at the BP station at 5445 University Ave.

Police said a gunman made off with cash from the till.

A police dog was unable to track the robber, according to the report.

The armed man was described as black with a lighter complexion, in his late teens, 6 feet tall with a slender build. Police said he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, black pants and black shoes.

Minutes before the robbery, a car was stolen from the BP gas station lot and crashed on Craig Avenue. Investigators are looking into the possibility the two cases are connected, according to the report.
