West edges Memorial for sectional tennis title

Prep Mania Game of the Week winter schedule released

Madison West won the sixth tiebreaker to edge Madison Memorial and win the WIAA Division One boys tennis sectional title at Nielsen Tennis Stadium Thursday.

The Regents and Spartans tied for the team championship with 32 points each, but West had fewer games lost at the sectional (45-57), so the Regents qualify for the state team tennis tournament in two weeks at Nielsen.

Memorial freshman Colt Tegtmeir won the #1 singles title with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Oregon’s Calvin Schneider.

West’s Matt Munns and Jordan Willauer defeated Memorial’s Colin Pitman and Doug Powell for the #1 doubles sectional title.

Middleton won the Oconomwoc Sectional, so the Cardinals will face their Big Eight rivals, West, in the state quarterfinals of the team tournament.

In Division Two, Edgewood won the East Troy sectional to advance to the state team tournament in two weeks.
