We will support community in educating, ending sexual assault
It was “just” some friendly touching. It was “just” some mixed signals. It was “just” the alcohol. It was “just” boys being boys. No…here’s what it “just” was: sexual assault.
Sexual assault is an epidemic and a crisis.
The statistics are staggering: one in four girls is sexually assaulted before the age of 18. And make no mistake; this is primarily a crime against women. And there is no defense. There is no “just” about sexual assault.
As our third editorial agenda item for the year we will support the work of people in our community, including on campus, to educate and to end sexual assault. And our focus will be on men, and the messages will be, this is not OK, this not cool and this can’t be minimized by “it was just” something it’s not. We will believe women, and we will stop protecting men.
Our agenda concludes tomorrow with A State Where Every Child Thrives.
