We need to focus on health, happiness, future of children

We complete our 2017 editorial agenda roll-out with an issue that has probably shown up in one form or another in every agenda we’ve set: the health, happiness, well-being and future of our children.

It shouldn’t need to be on any agenda. It should be a priority at every level of government, social and civic life. But it’s not. And that’s wrong.

We are influenced by our terrific WISC Children’s Advisory Board members, and especially the good folks from the Wisconsin Council on Children and Families from whom we borrowed the vision of A State Where Every Child Thrives.

It includes birth-to-three efforts we talked about earlier. It includes great child care, public schools, family support and appropriate juvenile justice. And it includes a foundation of racial equity. And it includes our Time for Kids: Time to Talk campaign on kids and mental health.

Sunday we’ll wrap up our agenda including what we left out.
