We need to end silence on sexual assault epidemic

Our sexual assault agenda item is another issue that could be affected by budget decisions here and in Washington.

In particular we’re concerned about a Walker budget proposal that could result in cuts to the services the Rape Crisis Center offers on the UW-Madison campus.

That said, we’ve seen heightened interest on this issue and greater urgency by advocates to stop the epidemic of assault on women and the role of men in making that happen.

This Saturday is the 6th annual Wrap Around the Capitol sponsored by the Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault.

Survivors, advocates and community members will gather in the Rotunda of the State Capitol as a cap on the Day of Healing. After a morning of shared stories of healing by survivors participants will circle the Rotunda and “raise their voices to end the silence about sexual assault.”

And ending the silence is what our editorial agenda issue is all about.
