JANESVILLE— Wayne Garth Buchanan, age 65, of Janesville, died following a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at home.

He was born in Caldwell, ID on Feb. 12, 1949, the son of Garth Boyd and Jewel (Lundgreen) Buchanan. He graduated from Capitol High School, Boise, ID in 1967, and attended Brigham Young University. Wayne married Frieda D. Pieper in Idaho Falls, ID on April 1, 1971.

He served in the National Guard from 1971 to 1973. He had lived in Richfield, UT, Meridian, ID, and in Janesville for the past 22 years. He had been employed by The Schlueter Company, and had worked in the dairy industry his whole life. Wayne was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he served as Bishop of the Beloit Ward for 5 years and served as President of the Madison Wisconsin Stake for 9 ½ years. Wayne was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Frieda Pieper Buchanan; children and grandchildren: Aaron (Kelly) Buchanan and their children, Garrett and Elliott Buchanan; Jake (Tania) Buchanan and their children, Stockton, Warren, Meghan, Molly and Madeline; Brett (Angela) Buchanan and their children, Lindsey, Ezra, Eli and Leah; Jill (Mat) Palmer and their children, Olivia, Lucy and Vaughn; Tom Buchanan and his children, Sophie, Thomas and Henry; and Seth Buchanan; 5 siblings: Arthur (Bonnie) Buchanan, Julie (Jay) Smith, Rose (Gary) Chlarson, Kathy (Loren) McIntyre and Chad (Glena) Buchanan; many nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Joyce Ann.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS, 3001 N. Wright Rd., Janesville with Bishop Dennis Nielsen officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
