MADISON – Wayne Burmeister, age 78, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at home, surrounded by family.
He was born on Dec. 30, 1941, in Waseca, Minn., the son of Oscar Burmeister and Rosella (Proehl) Burmeister. Wayne graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. He married Constance Odders on July 29, 1972, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison.
Wayne worked at American Family Insurance for over 20 years. He was a longtime member of McFarland Lutheran Church and a current member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie. Wayne was also a founding member of Skilaufers, and was very actively involved with the group for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, downhill skiing, snowboarding, and water skiing, well into his 70’s and he competed in the Badger State Games. Wayne loved traveling with his wife throughout the U.S. and Europe, especially going out west to ski.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Constance; two daughters, Rachel (Timothy) Svendsen and Elizabeth (Geoffrey) Weien; five grandchildren, Andrew, Lorna and Zachary Svendsen, Ada and Henry Weien; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Eloise (Marlin) Jans.
The Funeral Service will be held at OUR SAVIOR’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 550 Lincoln Drive, Sun Prairie, at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday January 25, 2020, with Pastor Tim Hansen presiding. Visitation will be held at OUR SAVIOR’S LUTHERAN CHURCH from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, and also at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
