Waunakee advances to WIAA state baseball

Waunakee broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the fifth inning to defeat Middleton 6-0 in a WIAA baseball sectional final Friday in Sauk City.

Waunakee advances to the state tournament that begins next Tuesday in Grand Chute.

In the fifth, Luke Johnson’s bases loaded RBI single drove in the first run of the game.

Later in the inning, Willie Freimuth drove in two more with a single to center to make it 3-0 Waunakee.

Mark Siehoff got the win in relief for Waunakee which returns to state for the first time since 2010.

Waunakee will face Sun Prairie to open the WIAA State Baseball tournament Tuesday morning at 8 am.

The second game of the Division One quarterfinals will feature Stoughton against Neenah.
