A Waukesha man died when his motorcycle went into the ditch and crashed into a power pole early Saturday morning, Walworth County officials said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a motorcycle crash on Highway ES just west of Kadad Lane in the town of Troy around 2:30 a.m., according to a release.

Vernon Shaner, 48, was going west on Highway ES and had just passed a pickup truck on his 1987 Harley Davidson motorcycle when the motorcycle left the road while going around a curve, investigators aid. The motorcycle slid on the grass and crashed into a power pole.

Shaner was transported to Waukesha Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

The crash remains under investigation.
