Saturday at the Resch Center, Waterloo girls volleyball had their hands full when they played Lake Country Lutheran in the division three state final. The Pirates beat the Lightning 3-2 to win their second state championship in a row. 

Lake Country Lutheran didn’t back down to the reigning state champions. The Lightning rode Brooke Anderson to a 26-24 win in the first set. Anderson ended up with 30 kills in the match. 

Future Marquette Golden Eagle Madeline Mosher led the pirates to victories in sets two and three, 25-18 and 25-20. 

Down 2-1, the Lightning didn’t surrender. They won the fourth set 25-22 to force a decisive fifth set. 

In the fifth set, Waterloo imposed its will, winning 15-10.
