Warm weather helps golf courses open in February
February 17 is earliest opening for Bridges G.C.
MADISON, Wis. — Only nine holes were available for play, but that was enough to put smiles on the faces of golfers anxious to put a tee in the ground and play golf Friday.
“To start this early on, the 17th of February, is unbelievable. We’ve never started this early,” Becky Iverson, director of golf at the Bridges Golf Course, said.
Unseasonably warm weather will allow Bridges to open 14 holes to play starting Saturday. News of that was enough to light up the phone lines in the pro shop and fill the tee time sheet for much of the weekend.
“I got the itch about five minutes after we stopped playing in the fall,” says Bill Nardi, a golfer who was among the first on the tee to start the new season.
The Oaks Golf Course in Cottage Grove will also be open for play beginning Monday.
