Wallet theft leads to chase, arrest
Officer spots thief while driving victim home
MADISON, Wis. — The theft of a wallet from a woman’s purse led to a chase and the arrest of a teenager on Madison’s west side Saturday night, according to police.
Police said the 22-year-old victim was on a Metro bus at the West Transfer Point after 7 p.m. when her purse was taken by someone sitting behind her. The woman and an off-duty U.S. Marshal in the area chased the teenager who was able to jump a fence and escape.
While driving the victim home a police officer spotted the thief walking in the 6500 block of Odana Road. The teenager was taken into custody at gunpoint after police set up a perimeter and tracked him down, according to police.
Police said the 15-year-old was in possession some of the victim’s property and other property was found on a sidewalk and in a trash can.
The teenager was arrested on suspicion of theft and resisting an officer.
