Walker to attend trade conference in Tokyo next week
MADISON, Wis. — Gov. Scott Walker will be attending a trade conference in Tokyo next week.
Walker announced Thursday that he will be going to the Midwest U.S.-Japan Association Conference in Tokyo that runs Sunday through Tuesday.
He said the goal is to build trade ties between Wisconsin and Japan businesses and investors.
The meeting comes just give months after Walker led a trade mission to China, his first as governor.
Walker said the Japan meeting is important because the country is Wisconsin’s fifth largest export destination and the top overseas purchaser of medical and scientific instruments from the state.
There are nine Midwest states in the association. Walker will be joined at the meeting by Reed Hall, leader of Wisconsin’s economic development agency.
