Vivian M. Plahetka

COTTAGE GROVE – Vivian M. Plahetka, age 89, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2012, in Madison. She was born on Oct. 9, 1922, in the Town of Primrose, the daughter of Ben and Mabel (Witte) Skuldt.

Vivian was united in marriage on Jan. 15, 1949 to Herman Plahetka in Dubuque, Iowa. In her early years, Vivian worked in Madison at the Celon and Oscar Mayer. Later she devoted her time to being a wife, mother and homemaker where she kept a tidy home and wonderful meals were always ready. While raising her children she also provided after school care for other children. Vivian enjoyed animals (especially cats and small dogs), going to garage sales, gardening and sewing, having made almost all her own clothes. Mother lived her life to the best of her ability and always made great efforts to make sure her family was taken care of. Many sacrifices were made by mother for her family. Vivian’s greatest attribute was her sense of humor. She could see ordinary things in a humorous way and was always ready to laugh or make a joke.

Vivian is survived by her son, Alan (Shelly Armstrong) Plahetka; daughter, Dawn (Jody) Blumenstein; five grandchildren, Alana Plahetka of New York, N.Y., Austin Plahetka of Madison, and Travis, Taylor and Tori Blumenstein, all of Poynette. She was preceded in death by her husband Herman; infant son, Michael; sister, Nina Kittleson; and brothers, Boyd and Grayden Skuldt.

Private family services will be held.

Mother, Life will not be the same without your constant presence and love. We will miss you but we know that you are resting now. Love Al, Jody, Dawn, Alana, Austin, Travis, Taylor and Tori.
