Visit Stori Anne Co. for trendy clothes on a budget
Stoughton boutique offers a stylish laid-back vibe
In a fast-paced week, all it takes is a trip to Stoughton, just 20 miles southeast of Madison, to slow down and enjoy a downtown with historic character. And as a lover of bygone main streets and buildings with charm, I’ll take any opportunity to visit this little burg full of Norwegian history, great restaurants and locally owned shops–like Stori Anne Co., an approachable womenswear boutique right on the main drag.
Located in a vintage building that once housed a hotel, pharmacy and basement speakeasy, the boutique owned by friends Jenna Pechmann and Nikki Rostowfske conveys that girlfriend vibe as soon as you walk in. Racks of dresses greet shoppers along with tables full of jewelry, an area devoted to everyday basics (tank tops, long-sleeve shirts and fun bralettes) and an activewear section. Rostowfske says she and Pechmann look for pieces that are “on trend and on budget.” And true to their mission, each piece in the shop is under $100–with most under $50.
“We want women to come in and say, ‘I want to wear this, I want to have this in my closet,'” says Rostowfske. Look for staple pieces that are a step up from basic, like a navy and white striped T-shirt dress with a lace-up neckline or a pair of neon yellow D’orsay flats for a kick of color and style.
The shop just celebrated its fourth anniversary in January, and Rostowfske is thrilled to be doing what she loves. “I get to be a part of people’s special day in some aspect in what they wear, whether it’s a birthday, festival or night out with friends,” she says, “and that’s my favorite part.”
Confession: I love neon yellow more than I should. And these Qupid “Pointer” flats satisfy my color obsession. $31.50
My Story’s blush tunic dress with a lace-up neckline is a steal at $36–and is the perfect transitional winter-to-spring wardrobe piece.
Still don’t have a denim button-up? Pick up this soft Potter’s Pot chambray version with a high-low hem to wear with literally anything this spring and summer. $48
