Virlen Haugen, age 91 of The Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe, formerly of Blanchardville died on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Pleasant View. He was born on October 12, 1922 in York Township, Green County, Wisconsin to John & Amelia (Nyhus) Haugen. He attended school in Postville. He lived in the Blanchardville area for most of his life and worked as a farm hand for the Nyhus family, first for Abert, and later for David. He spent a couple of years living in Gilman, Wisconsin. Virlen loved his farm work and loved working with wood and trimming trees. In later years he moved to Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe. He was a member of the York Memorial Lutheran Church in rural Blanchardville. Virlen is survived by many friends at the Pleasant View Nursing Home, and many other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Victor who died in 2008.
Friends may call Saturday morning, February 1, 2014 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at the York Memorial Lutheran Church at the intersection of highways 78 and 39 in rural Blanchardville. Rev. Mark Gruner of the Pecatonica Lutheran Parish will officiate. Burial will be in the York Memorial Cemetery.
