Virginia Belle “Ginny” Barritt

Virginia Belle “Ginny” (Smith) Barritt, age 85, of CrestRidge Assisted Living in Dodgeville, formerly of Cobb, WI passed away on Monday, November 17, 2014 at Upland Hills Health.

She was born on June 12, 1929 in New Lisbon, WI, the daughter of Chester and Kathlyn (Walden) Smith. Virginia graduated from Madison East High School in 1947. She married Donald Barritt on June 17, 1950. They lived in Waunakee and Dodgeville before settling in Cobb, WI. Over the years, Ginny worked part time taking the US Census, as the Cobb Village Clerk and at the Cobb Canning Factory. Her greatest love was, together with husband Don, raising four children and serving her community. Ginny was a Girl Scout Leader, Den Mother, Sunday School Teacher, member of Eastern Star, Cobb Fireman’s Auxiliary, Cobb United Methodist Women, Cobb Homemakers Club, Montfort-Cobb Ditzy Chixs Red Hat Club and Upland Hills Auxiliary. Ginny always had a pot of coffee waiting for guests and loved a visit from neighbors, friends, and family. She enjoyed quilting and playing Bridge. Family and faith were at the heart of all Ginny did. She loved God and lived each day to the fullest.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Scott Barritt, and her husband of 64 years Donald Barritt. Also her sister, Elizabeth “Pinky” Blankenship; her brothers, Herbert Smith; Robert Smith and Conant Smith and brothers-in-law, Dell Blankenship and George Linde.

Ginny is survived by a son, Steve (Patty) Barritt of Sauk City; two daughters, Nancy (Rick) Iglesias of Winona, MN and Kathy (Ty) Calkins of Janesville; a daughter-in-law, Mary Barritt of Stoughton; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a sister Romelle Linde of Madison; sisters-in-law, Joanne Smith of Madison; Lois Smith of Janesville and Marjorie Smith of Springboro, OH; a brother-in-law, Peter Barritt of Barron as well as many nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 P.M. Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Cobb United Methodist Church. Pastor Peter W. Berg will officiate with burial in Calvary Cemetery Friends may call at the church on Saturday after 11:00 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cobb United Methodist Church, Upland Hills Hospital Auxiliary or the charity of your choice.
