Viola Louise Alice Grunewald

Viola Louise Alice Grunewald, age 89, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie. She was born in Belmont on November 26, 1922, the daughter of the late Henry and Emmeline (Frehner) Voigts. She was united in marriage to Floyd W. Grunewald on January 30, 1941. He preceded her in death on November 16, 1994. Viola and Floyd enjoyed many trips and being involved in planning the state Lutheran Bowling Tournament. Viola was an active member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, and held a number of different offices within the congregation and synod. In addition, she was a past general leader for the Prairie Busy Badgers 4-H Club, a Sauk County Fair Foods Superintendent, and a past member of two homemakers groups.

She is survived by four children, Sharon (Marc) Karrmann of Dubuque, IA, Kay Bailey of Sun Prairie, Dan (Patti) Grunewald and Bill Grunewald, both of Prairie du Sac; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florence (Art) Reese of Cuba City and Lorita (Vernelle) Klein of Platteville; sisters-in-law, Marian Voigts, Catherine Voigts, Esther (Richard) Kirschling, Catherine Grunewald and Betty (Howard) Heckman; a brother-in-law, Harold (Marjorie) Grunewald; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Chadwick; three brothers, Harold, Orville and Willard Voigts; brother-in-law, Bob Grunewald; sister-in-law, Ruth Voigts; great-grandson, Benjamin Schmidt; and two sons-in-law, Martin and Perry Bailey.

A funeral service will be held at ST. JOHN EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 100 Oak St., Prairie du Sac, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2012. Friends may call at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, 251 Water St., Sauk City, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, and also at the church on Thursday, one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Belmont Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.
