Victim in Saturday night shooting dies, Madison’s first homicide in 2021
MADISON, Wis. — A shooting at a Madison gas station Saturday night has now become the city’s first homicide investigation of the year, according to police.
Police say a 23-year-old Madison man who was shot outside the BP gas station on S. Park Street died from his injuries on Monday morning. The victim’s name won’t be released to the public until family can be notified and the medical examiner’s office can conduct an autopsy.
In the meantime, police say the investigation into the shooting is active and ongoing.
The shooting happened just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday and led to a large police presence in the area for several hours. Police are now saying their preliminary investigation found the shooting was targeted.
Madison police say 10 people have now been shot in the city so far this year, but this is the first shooting to lead to a death in 2021. At this point last year, Madison had seen two homicides.
