Victim: Argument may have been ruse to set up robbery
Group confronted victim, snatched purse
MADISON, Wis. — A 21-year-old victim of a purse snatching believes an argument between the suspects was simply a ruse to set up the strong-armed robbery.
The Madison woman said she was waiting for a friend in the 400 block of W. Gorham Street around 2:45 a.m. Saturday when she was surrounded by a group of people who were arguing.
The suspects confronted the victim after she told them there was no need to fight, and that’s when they snatched her purse, police said.
The victim was not hurt.
The Dooney & Burke-brand purse is tan and brown leather with a snap-top close, according to the police report.
Police said the robber was described as a black woman, 20-25 years old, standing 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 130 pounds. The woman was wearing a yellow and pink tank top, and a multi-colored, sequined do-rag, according to police.
